Every day, the material flow process is becoming more “computerized”. Couple that with newly created compliance requirements by your customer(s) without detailed, industry accepted, standards and you have a challenge. Confusing – you bet!

However, the most challenging aspect of UID/RFID does not lie in the micro-technology but rather in the horizontal reach of this technology across internal business responsibilities. Potential RFID users, both large and small, struggle to find the most responsible person or organization internally for this new technology deployment – usually with little success. Multiple skills, multiple disciplines are required to integrate this technology. Therein lies the crux of design and implementation disappointments of this new and exciting technology.

Enter – Silverlining Partners.

SilverLining’s unique capability of having both a business and technology grounding makes it a logical choice to assist your company with the introduction of UID and RFID. Our 100+ combined years of technology experience, coupled with the engineering and software application expertise of our partners makes us a very cost effective, experienced and formidable solutions provider of UID and RFID technology.

Let’s explain.

First, think back to the introduction of networking into your company for the very first time. Certainly, the technology was new and confusing. Standards were not there. Even when you understood the network components, every department and employee was impacted differently. What was the right printer for the finance group? What server size was needed to handle all the traffic and into the future? What applications would run over the network and when was the high traffic peaks? How do I get access? What happens if the system fails? Who will add, delete or change the network components as business needs increase? And the big question was it affordable?

UID and RFID share similar issues.

First the technology needs to be designed properly – from accurately locating the tag and antenna equipment to determining the correct size of either the passive or active tag antenna. Short of “slap and ship”, it needs to fit into your existing workflow. Or your processes and flow need to be adapted.

Next the tag needs to be properly “programmed” to ensure your customer can read the data into its system. You must be able to store, retrieve and manipulate that same data. Departmentally, finance, customer service, manufacturing, shipping, receiving, materials handling and warranty service needs UID/RFID data integrated into their existing application system(s) to manage the business. And finally, what do you do when introducing a new product or shipping to new customer? What must be changed?

If you are a small or medium size business, you probably don’t have the luxury of having a staff member that understands auto-ID technology, logistics and IT hardware and software applications equally well. Forget the intricacies of workflow analysis and tag engineering-compliance and programming standards to meet your client’s expectations. And if that person exists, can he take the time to implement it? Of course, you can always purchase a low cost, one-size-fits-all, “turn-key” solution but that still leaves you as the implementation guru. And will it work after all?

SilverLining has developed an overall assessment and solution delivery process that will remove the complexity of introducing this new technology into your corporate environment. It is called “Smart Material Environment” or S.M.E.

S.M.E. is a specialized practice, having two major components. “Click” either of the below to get additional details on our deliverables.

Assessment

Solution Implementation

Our 6 Stages are scalable to meet the needs of our clients. If you have plotted your course (Stages 1 and 2) we can review your plan (Stage 3) and implement your design (Stage 4-6) quickly and efficiently. Need to justify the project, Stages 1 and 2 will provide you with a report that outlines the deliverables, risk assessment and ROI review. Whatever you need, we can assist you in making this leading edge technology a seamless part of your company workflow.
